Construction To Begin Soon On 20 Waterway Avenue (Click here for full story)

New building overlooking Waterway Square to house four restaurants

Construction will soon begin on 20 Waterway Avenue, a new building planned to house four restaurants in The Woodlands Town Center. Designed by Frank Lucas of Baltimore, MD, the building will be bordered by The Woodlands Waterway® to the south, and by Waterway Square to the east. Waterway Square is a one-acre “European styled” plaza with signature fountains that is slated to open in late February, 2008, according to Dan Leverett, vice president of commercial for The Woodlands Development Company.

The 30,000-square-foot building features a distinctive architectural design with a two-story structure on the south side bordering The Waterway and a three-story structure with roof terrace on the north side. The taller structure will also extend further out toward Waterway Square. The main, elevator-served entry in the center of the building will be adjacent to ! Waterway Square and will include public restrooms.  Separate interior entries will lead to the four restaurants housed in the new building.

“The design for 20 Waterway Avenue gives the impression of a collection of smaller pieces rather than one large building,” said Frank Lucas. “The shape of the buildings is very articulated, providing various solar orientations and views of The Waterway and the Square.  There will also be ‘roofscapes’ on each building that offer interesting views from the taller buildings around the Square, like 24 Waterway Avenue and the planned condominium tower and boutique hotel. The three-story structure will feature a rooftop terrace and the rooftop of the smaller structure will be a ‘low meadow’ with sedum groundcover plantings”.

All four restaurants will be very urban, with entries off the plaza and no back doors. Terraces, balconies and cantilevered decks will provide multiple viewpoints for those dining outdoors.

“20 Waterway Avenue will be the ideal indoor/outdoor environment for dining on Waterway Square,” said Leverett. ! “The design is architecturally significant, and distinctly urban in look and feel. Enjoying a glass of wine on the rooftop deck at 20 Waterway Avenue while watching the fountains dance below in Waterway Square, will be a very memorable experience.”

Negotiations are underway with several restaurants to locate in the new building when it is completed in 2008.

The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre master-planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston.  It is a project of The Woodlands Development Company, a limited partnership of Morgan Stanley and General Growth Properties, Inc.

JUNE 2007 REPORT – HURRICANE TECH TIPS

As you are all aware, hurricane season is upon us, and it is forecasted to include some powerful storms for this area.

Most of us have our “home” lists of what to do prior to a major storm, however, many of us will need to secure our business technology files, software and hardware as well.

The following Technology Tips have been provided by The Aldridge Company, a Houston based IT and Internet Services firm. Should you have more questions, you may contact them at 713-403-9150.

  1. HAVE A PLAN – You may lose people and/or power and/or computers and/or data and/or programs. Have a plan and make sure your staff knows what it is.
  2. BACK UP your critical data off-site or copy it onto a CD-ROM, floppy disk, data stick, or laptop that you keep with you if you evacuate. Practice back-up and restoration NOW!
  3. PACK UP YOUR DATA along with your water, flashlight, and batteries.
  4. PRINT YOUR CONTACTS – all critical information – for important business and personal contacts, in case computer or electric power is unavailable.
  5. RECORD ALL YOUR PASSWORDS - - Prepare and take your list of user names and passwords for your internet connection, router, modem, PC, network, website, on-line billing accounts, etc. If you find you need to relocate, have that information with you to access from an Internet Café or Public Library.
  6. SECURE THE HQ and be sure your machines are Log-On password protected, in case you have to leave them behind and don’t want anyone else to get into them.
  7. TAKE THE DISKS and the license information or codes for all software programs that are critical for your operations, so you can reinstall the programs if you need to change to new hardware.
  8. UPS GUARD units should be in place – storm or no storm. Plug your computers and monitors into Universal Power Supply (UPS) units to guard against electricity spikes as well as loss of power. A UPS can give you enough time to properly shut down your PC when the power goes out.
  9. REMOTE SERVER CONTACT – If you store your data off-site, get in touch with your remote server and update their list of Authorized Personnel on your account to include anyone you want to be able to give instructions or to access the equipment.

MAY 2007 REPORT: LOCAL GOVERNANCE

It’s an exciting time for The Woodlands, as there is much going on in the Texas Legislature that affects our future.

The following was recently posted on the Texas Legislature website: SB 2022 was placed on the Senate intent calendar for 05/11/07. SB 20022 is the bill that expands Town Center Improvement District to all of The Woodlands.

The companion bill, HB 4109 was earlier placed on Local, Consent, and Res. Calendar for the same date, 05/11/07.

This week may be the day for approval of both, and in that case, they will go to the Governor as HB 4109, since there are very minor differences from SB 2022.

Continue to watch and read the local papers for updates in the legislative process.

JANUARY 2007 REPORT - Governance

The proposed agreement with the City of Houston to forego annexation of The Woodlands has presented TCID with, perhaps, its greatest challenge and opportunity to render a tremendous service to the community, as well as the prospect for radical changes in its traditional structure, functions and services.

Please check the Governance button on this site for ongoing updates and news releases regarding this topic.

JUNE 2006 REPORT – CRIMECAST, The Woodlands

As I promised during our campaign receptions, if elected, one of my goals would be to keep you, the Town Center Residents, informed as to the happenings and news in our community.

One of the topics that was repeatedly voiced in those meetings was concern for continued safety in the area. As our population grows and we attract more visitors and new residents to Town Center, we all want to maintain the safe feeling that we enjoy when we walk The Waterway and explore the many shops, events and restaurants nearby.

To that end, I would like to share with you a CRIMECAST Report that was presented at the last TCID Board Meeting. This CRIMECAST model shows probability measures for not only our location, but several similar locations in our region. These scores focus on crimes against persons (homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault) and property (burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft).

I believe that you will find the statistics in the report not only helpful, but hopeful in that our law enforcement agencies in Montgomery County and specifically in Town Center are working diligently to “stay ahead of the crime curve” and keep our community safe.
