The Woodlands Township (TWT), formerly The Town Center Improvement District (TCID) is a local governmental agency whose mission is to promote, develop, encourage and maintain economic development for the public benefit of The Woodlands downtown area. TCID was created in 1993, by the Texas Legislature, as a local governmental agency. The major emphasis with Town Center Improvement District is Public Safety, where the District enjoys a very low crime rate. TCID is dedicated to helping accommodate growth and its issues in the best possible way to reap the most benefits. The TCID voted to change its name to The Woodlands Township to better describe its expanded responsibilities voters approved in the November 6, 2007 election which resulted in the adoption of the three propositions enabling The Woodlands to determine its own form of government.
